What does complete & balanced dog food actually mean?
You’ll see the words “complete and balanced” used frequently when talking about dog food.
They’re important.
Dogs need a range of nutrients to remain healthy, including protein, fats, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.
And they need those nutrients in appropriate amounts and proportions.
What does “complete” mean?
A complete dog food is formulated to provide all the nutrients a dog requires when it is fed as their main diet according to the appropriate feeding guidance.
A complementary food, on the other hand, is designed to be fed alongside other foods and isn’t necessarily nutritionally complete on its own.
Fresh ingredients aren’t enough
This is particularly important when considering freshly prepared food.
Meat, fish and vegetables may look wonderfully wholesome, but simply combining them in a bowl doesn’t guarantee the correct nutritional balance.
That’s why formulation matters.
