About Monty’s Larder

We founded The Dorset Meat Company in 2018 to provide the finest grass fed, free range meat, sustainable fresh fish, cheeses, deli items and chef prepared meals to households across the UK.

So, we decided to do the same for your dog.

Monty’s Larder is a range of freshly cooked food for dogs using grass fed beef and lamb from the West Country, sustainable fish, and fresh vegetables.

We believe dogs deserve food that has been made properly.

Which is why each recipe is developed by vets specialising in canine nutrition, to deliver a complete and balanced diet that supports strong muscles, healthy digestion, a glossy coat and steady energy.

Every freshly cooked meal is made using grass-fed beef and lamb from West Country farms, sustainably landed fish from Brixham, Weymouth and Poole, and vegetables sourced from trusted growers.

What’s different about Monty’s Larder?

We founded The Dorset Meat Company to provide you with the finest, ethically reared meat sourced from West Country farms.

We decided to do the same for your dog.

Our meals have been vet developed in line with canine best practice and made by hand using the finest and freshest ingredients and superfoods to provide a natural, balanced diet for your dog.

Essentially, a nutritious ready meal for your dog cooked by hand and then frozen.

Food for dogs. Not dog food.

What type of meals do you provide?

Our food for dogs is cooked in small batches by hand using grass-fed, beef and lamb from the West Country, sustainable fish and fresh vegetables.

Our meals are not raw, dry, or wet food. They are, essentially, a nutritious ready meal for your dog cooked by hand and then frozen.

Cooked like you would at home.

No fillers, 100% grain free, and with a 60% meat content. Fresh vegetables, oils, superfoods, and herbs are added to make a complete and balanced meal full of vitamins and minerals.

Your meals will be sent to you frozen. All you have to do is to allow them to defrost fully before serving or pop them in the freezer to use as convenient. We would advise that you use them within 5 days of defrosting.

Where do you source your ingredients?

Monty’s Larder is our range of freshly cooked food for dogs, using grass fed beef and lamb from the West Country, sustainable fish, and fresh vegetables.

Our meals have been vet developed in line with canine nutrition best practice to provide healthier, cooked food for dogs that is complete and balanced.

Simply, freshly made food for dogs using proper, natural ingredients with no nasty additives, fillers and bulking agents, cooked with love.

Just like you would at home.

Our food is rich in essential vitamins and minerals, grain free and untainted by growth promoters and chemicals, full of essential amino and fatty acids, high in Omega 3, with a high meat content of around 60%.

It’s a healthy choice for you to make for your dog.

How will the food arrive?

Your order will be frozen prior to despatch, when it arrives, simply pop the meals in the freezer and serve as required. Monty’s meals will last for 5 days in the fridge and up to 6 months in the freezer.

Can I mix Monty’s Larder with my current food?

Yes you can. Simply use it as delicious topper to what you dog eats currently.

Is the packaging recyclable?

So that your order arrives in top condition, we prepare each order by hand so that it’s fresh, vacuum-pack each item and then pack it in a temperature controlled, fully recyclable chilled liner and double gauge cardboard box in order to ensure that the contents stay chilled for over 48 hours.

We use a leading temperature controlled food packaging system from our packaging partner Protective Packaging that enables us to send your meat box overnight using the DPD national courier network with complete confidence.

Climate testing validates that the Protective Packaging system will perform on a UK based extreme peak summer temperature profile for more than 24 hrs and more than 48 hrs during winter testing (held between +2˚c to +8˚).

The foil liner can be disposed of in your green bin depending on the policy adopted by your council local council, or place in the black bin as general waste.

 

How do I use your food?

Our meals will be sent to you frozen. All you have to do is to allow them to defrost fully before serving or pop them in the freezer to use as convenient. We would advise that you use them within 5 days of defrosting.

You can either heat them gently or serve cold.

If you forget to take a meal out of the freezer, simply pop one in a bowl of warmish water and it will defrost within 10 to 15 minutes.

Do I need to set up a regular order?

To make it really easy and simple, you can either create your own, one-off order to see how your dog gets on with a new diet, or, if you prefer, set up a regular delivery to arrive every two weeks.

It’s entirely up to you.

Why set up a regular order?

You may find it more convenient and a simple way of ensuring your dog continues be well fed giving one less thing to do.

If I set up a regular order, can I pause or cancel it?

Absolutely.

If you know you are going to be away, you can pause or reschedule your delivery online or by simply calling us to suit you.

You can cancel your regular order at any time, you are not locked in.

What happens if I am out on the day of delivery?

You do not need to be in to receive your delivery

Your order will be delivered in an insulated cool liner with ice blocks which has been designed to keep everything nice and chilled in transit.

When you get home, simply pop the meals in the freezer as normal.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver across the United Kingdom (other than the Channel Islands, Northern Ireland and the far, north of Scotland) every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Are your meals complete and balanced?

Yes they are. A complete dog food needs to meet the guidelines stipulated by the European Pet Food Industry (Fediaf) by including all the essential nutrients that a dog needs. By being complete, no supplementary foods are required in your dog’s diet.

Monty’s Larder complete meals have been vet approved in line with canine nutrition best practice and meet Fediaf guidelines.

Switching to Monty’s Larder

Whilst most dogs will switch to a new diet easily, you may want to take a few days to adjust to the new flavours and ingredients to reduce any risk of any tummy upsets. So you may want to build it up gently by adding (a few spoonfulls to start off with) your Monty’s Larder meal to their normal food over, say, 7 to 10 days.
