How activity affects how much your dog needs to eat
Weight isn’t the only thing that determines how much food your dog needs.
Activity matters too.
Consider two dogs that both weigh 20kg.
One spends much of the day relaxing at home with a couple of gentle walks.
The other regularly runs, works or spends several hours exercising.
Their energy requirements are unlikely to be identical.
Think about everyday activity
When considering your dog’s activity, think about walks, exercise and general activity throughout the day.
Breed, age and individual temperament can all make a difference too.
Activity changes
Your dog’s activity won’t necessarily remain constant throughout their life.
Older dogs may slow down. An injury might temporarily reduce exercise. Holidays or seasonal changes may mean much longer walks.
Their food may need to change accordingly.
That’s why Monty’s asks
Our Plan Builder asks about your dog’s age, weight and activity before recommending an appropriate daily portion.
It’s designed to provide a more individual starting point than simply feeding every dog of the same weight exactly the same amount.
Feed the dog, not just the scales.
