How much should I feed my dog?
There isn’t one portion size that’s right for every dog.
How much your dog needs depends on several factors, including their weight, age, activity level, body condition and the energy contained in their food.
That’s why two dogs of exactly the same weight won’t necessarily need exactly the same amount.
Start with weight
Your dog’s current weight gives you a useful starting point.
But it doesn’t tell the whole story.
An active dog spending hours exercising each day may require considerably more energy than a similarly sized dog leading a quieter life.
Age matters too.
Look at the dog, not just the number
Your dog’s body condition is an important indicator of whether you’re feeding the right amount.
You should generally be able to feel their ribs without having to press through a heavy covering of fat, and they should have a visible waist when viewed from above.
Monty’s can help
Our Plan Builder asks a few simple questions about your dog’s age, weight and activity and uses the answers to recommend an appropriate amount of Monty’s.
Treat that as a starting point and continue to monitor your dog’s weight and body condition.
And remember that treats and other foods count towards their overall daily intake too.
