Fresh, Raw, Wet or Dry — What’s the Difference?

Fresh, raw, wet or dry — what’s the difference?
There are more ways to feed a dog than ever before.
Understanding the basic differences can help you decide what works for you and your dog.

Dry food
Dry dog food, commonly known as kibble, contains relatively little moisture and is usually highly convenient to store and serve.
There is an enormous range available, from everyday foods to specialist veterinary diets.

Wet food
Wet dog food usually comes in tins, trays or pouches and has a much higher moisture content than kibble.
Again, some wet foods are complete while others are intended to be fed alongside other foods.

Raw food
Raw diets contain uncooked ingredients, usually meat and sometimes vegetables and other ingredients.
Raw feeding requires particularly careful attention to hygiene and handling.

Freshly cooked food
Freshly cooked food uses ingredients such as meat, fish and vegetables that are cooked before feeding.
Monty’s meals are freshly cooked and then frozen, allowing you to keep them conveniently at home until you need them.

So which should you choose?
There isn’t a single answer that’s right for every dog.
Whatever format you choose, one of the most important questions is whether the food provides complete and balanced nutrition appropriate for your dog.
Look beyond whether something is described as fresh, natural or premium and understand what the food actually provides.
And if your dog has a medical condition or particular dietary requirement, talk to your vet before making a significant change to their diet.

Switching to Monty’s Larder

Whilst most dogs will switch to a new diet easily, you may want to take a few days to adjust to the new flavours and ingredients to reduce any risk of any tummy upsets. So you may want to build it up gently by adding (a few sponfulls to start off with) your Monty’s Larder meal to their normal food over, say, 7 to 10 days.
